Future Cargo by Requardt & Rosenberg

In May 2022 we brought a a 40ft truck into Memorial Gardens as part of Crawley Borough Council and Brighton Festival’s Without Walls weekend in the Enliven: You’re Welcome season funded by Crawley Town Centre BID. Over 250 people watched the show.

Future Cargo

There are reports of fireballs in the area. Power surges and blackouts and electromagnetic waves. The message boards are filling up with unexplained visions of ‘gods’ and lights. A mystery shipment arrives in Crawley from an unknown location.
As the side rolls up on a 40ft haulage truck, an alien machine is revealed and a strange and unstoppable process begins. A compelling invitation to make contact evolves. Before it’s too late to walk away, the driver must consider their options…
Future Cargo is an homage to a past where alien sightings were abundant, and a future where contact seems all too possible.
This latest outdoor show by Frauke Requardt & David Rosenberg combines large scale spectacle with surprising intimacy in a sci-fi dance phenomenon performed under the stars. Audiences wear headphones to connect them to the strange world inside the truck.
Created with longstanding collaborators, Hannah Clark (set and costume), Ben & Max Ringham (music and sound) and Malcolm Rippeth (lighting design).

Crawley Borough Council, Crawley Town Centre BID and Creative Crawley are pleased to host these performances and work alongside Brighton Festival to bring these amazing, bright, innovative companies to the town centre for a great day of entertainment.
