5 metre high puppet visitor – giant blanket

Contribute to a giant blanket

As part of the Enliven: You’re Welcome season and Crawley 75 , Animated Objects Theatre Company working in partnership with Crawley Town centre BID and Creative Crawley are bringing a unique series of live events to the town in August.

The 5 metre high visitor is a large scale puppet that will be visiting a number of destinations around Crawley from 11th – 14th August 2022.

We will be welcoming her to Crawley with artworks, music, and spoken word when she arrives.

We invite you to be a part of this exciting event.

Weʼre looking for people in Crawley to get involved by producing textile squares at home that will form part of a giant blanket to offer the puppet warmth when she arrives.

These squares will be assembled into the blanket at a series of sewing bees in early summer.

The pieces will be 30cm squares plus a 5cm border for attaching to main blanket.

We will be sending out base squares of calico in May for those participating, as each square will need to be robust enough to be attached to a larger piece and carried around outdoors.

We encourage the use of recycled materials where possible.

Weʼre asking those taking part to think about a design for their square to represent the place where you live; your house; words of welcome; your town; region; landscape; landmarks; whatever you think says something about our town.

Your design can be:

Cross stitch

but must be securely attached to a square of calico, so we can add it to the larger blanket.

We also invite you to take part in one of our sewing bees to help make the completed squares into a patchwork blanket – dates and venues to be confirmed.

Timescale for the project:

From 2nd May participants register their interest

From end of May calico squares are delivered/collected.
